Traditional Literature: "Little Pig! Little Pig! Let me in!"
The Three Little Pigs
Do you know the story of the talking three little pigs and the big bad wolf?
Once upon a time there were three little pigs, who wanted to make a better life for themselves. They decided to build new homes out of materials they had bought in the village. One pig build their house out of straw, the other out of sticks and the last pig made his house out of bricks. But then, the Big Bad Wolf came along and he was hungry for some pigs!
"Little pig! Little pig!
Let me in! Let me in!
Or I'll huff and I'll puff
And I'll blow your house down!"
What happens next to the pigs, their homes and the wolf is to be determined! Be sure to read Sheila Black's rendition of The Three Little Pigs to find out what happens next.
This traditional story offers a vague story line from a long time ago where the main characters take on human characteristics and teach the lesson of how the powerless can triumph evil through perseverance. The three little pigs in this story did not give up on getting away from the big bad wolf. The three little pigs story can be changed and altered based on different cultural beliefs. I will use this story in my classroom and other versions of three little pigs with the use of graphic organizers to see compare how the elements of the story line are the same and different.
